Sedation Dentistry
Have you or a loved one avoided needed dental treatment due to anxiety or fear of the dental environment? Do you have a loved one with untreated dental needs due to developmental or cognitive limitations? If so, sedation dentistry, which involves the use of relaxing medications most often enables such special-needs patients to receive the treatment they need and deserve.
Sedation Procedure
The medications can be given via inhalation, orally, intravenously, or by combination depending upon the individual needs of the patient. During the sedation procedure the patient will experience decreased awareness while remaining conscious in a very relaxed state. Patients often have no memory of the procedures that were done, hence the perception they were “put under.”
Patients must have a driver to transport them to and from the sedation appointment, and they must not be allowed to drive or return to work for 24 hours following the procedure.
Dr. Pippin has the advanced training and required permits to safely administer conscious sedation in the office.
